Before you call, do these three things
A short pause here often saves the whole call-out. First, check every other entry — back doors, laundry doors, side gates and ground-floor windows are left unlocked more often than people admit. Second, work out whether anyone else holds a key: a partner, a parent, a neighbour, a property manager, or the agent if you are renting. Third, if you are somewhere unsafe or exposed, move to a well-lit public spot and call from there.
- Try every other door and accessible window
- Work out who else might hold a working key
- Move somewhere safe and lit if you feel exposed
- Have identification ready to prove you are entitled to enter
