Doors behave differently through the year
Timber doors move. In a wet Melbourne winter a door can swell just enough that the latch no longer meets the strike plate cleanly, and by February it sits loose again. Aluminium and glass doors have the opposite problem — the hardware is small, precise, and unforgiving once a screw works loose. A lock that has become stiff or unreliable is often telling you about alignment rather than about the lock itself, which is worth checking before replacing anything.
